DAY 2: Take Me to church
This is definitely one of our most controversial videos. A string group sparking controversy? Who would have thought? We had the idea of smashing instruments in slow motion for a long time. The only problem was that we didn’t have a song that fit that imagery. Nick heard “Take Me to Church” on the radio and thought it was legit. He called Zack and asked him if he had heard the song yet. Zack said, “Yeah dude - it’s legit!” So Nick said, “Sick, I’ll call Glen.” To his surprise, when he called Glen and asked about the song, Glen replied, “Yeah dude, it’s legit! I already started arranging it!” The arrangement was done pretty quickly with very few changes needed. We were able to smash the instruments because Eastman Strings donated three instruments to us that were damaged beyond repair. (We would never destroy perfectly good instruments.) But we must say…it was super fun and satisfying to smash those instruments! We think most musicians at one point or another have wanted to smash their instruments. We can affirm - it feels great.
